Lack of sleep can have a profound effect on your health, yet many people suffer sleep disorders during the year. A hot tub can help relax you and prepare your body for sleep. But that is not all.
Sleep is normally preceded by a drop in body temperature. As you soak in your hot tub, your body temperature increases. After you leave the hot tub, the body temperature you gained begins to normalise and decrease. That more dramatic drop in core temperature signals to your brain that it is time to sleep.
You can enhance that mechanism by keeping your bedroom cool. The National Sleep Foundation suggests keeping your room between 16°C and 19°C, while keeping your room free of noise and other distractions.
A quick 20-30 minute nap during the day can help improve learning, memory and creative thinking. Harvard researchers say that a nap can help make you a more effective problem solver and can help you separate important information from less relevant information. But more than 20-30 minutes can make you feel groggy. Do not use napping as an alternative to less nighttime sleep. A good night’s sleep in conjunction with the occasional nap yields the best results.
